Punctuation is key! I know I sound like a fussbudget (believe it or not a real word!) but it is true. So below are some punctuation wonders, I call them punders, that will have your head spinning.

This must be broken into four sentences using only periods, commas, and a question mark (but of course semicolons are encouraged).

that that is is that that is not is not is that it it is

This one is tricky…insert the needed punctuation marksto make sense of it…and even then it’s confusing. You must insert six quotation marks two commas, one period and a semicolon.

James while John had had had had had had had had had had had a better effect on the teacher

Now lets play a comprehension game. Please tell me who bullies who, and who in turn they bully.

Buffalo buffalo, Buffalo buffalo buffalo, buffalo Buffalo buffalo.

And back to punctuation, we will now two commas, eight apostrophes, and a period.

For my sign please put more room between the Smith and and and and and Sons

And more punctuation problems. Here there is one period, two commas, and eight apostrophes.

It was and I said not are and and and are are different

If the police police police police, who polices the police police?

And finally, we are looking for six quotations marks

But and and and and and and and and and so are all pairs of conjunctions.

Hope you enjoyed the punders. If you think of the answer or another punder please comment below.

Math And Science

Posted by: | February 23, 2011 | No Comment |

For those of you who don’t know me well, I love math and science; I’d like to take a brief moment to thank these two wonderful subjects (not that I don’t like English and Social Studies)!

How to Bake a Math Cake:

Math has a simple recipe

its quiet useful to know.

Start with a little brains

And then the rest just flows

.

Add a smidge of subtraction

Next add an addition ounce

and blend in a dollop of division

And then when things are really cooking

mix in some multiplication

.

But you see that’s only the base of the cake

the creme-de-la-creme’s to come

now you use all that same stuff

and create the finishing crumbs

.

Now you make some algebra

and then some Geometry.

Next coat with two cups of calculus.

and a thick layer of number theory!

.

And upon all that delicious stuff

Comes topology

then smear on a layer of logic

and then the game theory

.

And yet there’s still more to come

with tasty probability

and dynamic systems

and a sprinkle of set theory

.

With differential equations

added into the flury

and combinatorics

and then model theory

.

And the list goes on

but this is were it gets fun,

Because you see with math

your never really done!

By Lily Harris

The thing I love most about math, though, is that no matter were in the world you are, math is always the same!

Now its time to thank Science. This poem is a play off of Elizabeth Barrett Browning’s 43rd Sonnet.

How do I love Science? Let me count the ways.

I love Science to the meter and the liter and and the kelvin

My brain can reach, when feeling with my intuition

For the ends of being an ideal scientist.

I love science to the bottom of every list

Most quiet need, by sun and Bunsen burner.

I love science a lot, as I strive to be a learner

I love science a bunch, as I do calculations

I love science with put to use observations

In my experiment, and with my hypothesis.

I love the reactions with every bubble and hiss

I love science with the respiration process,

Smiles, tears, of all my life; and, if God choose,

I shall but love thee better after death.

Michael “Sharkman” Rutzen

Posted by: | September 15, 2010 | 3 Comments |

To most, Michael “Sharkman” Rutzen (Sharkman) is doing the unthinkable. He swims out of the cage with Great White Sharks (Great Whites), the worlds most MichaelRutzenOnSharknotorious predator. But through years of working with these animal, Michael has been able to realize that Great Whites have another side to them.

Sharkman’s career with sharks first started when he accepted a jobon a diving boat that offered cage dives where people could experience the beautiful a respectable Great White Shark. But while many poeple would be scared being in the cage, Sharkman soon realized that these maginficent ocean goers had another side. To prove this He decided to go diving outside the cage.

After several dives outside the cage, Sharkman soon realized that sharks weren’t these mindless killers that movies like Jaws made them out to be. He discovered that sharks could be curious or shy, daring or not so daring, aggressive or placid.

His work with these animals has opened up a gate of new ideas and thoughts about Great Whites. After these many dives, he has found out that sharks can be placid and tame and hopefully his working will change or at least differ the opinions of many people.

The Shadow in The Water

Posted by: | August 23, 2010 | 2 Comments |

The shadow in the water

is fast approaching me.

And though I feel

that I should flee

I’d rather just

be let be

.

I am scared and lost at sea

with no landmarks in a field of blue

The shark is fast approaching

but in my little canoe

I feel no fear or worry

for this arrival of new.

.

He is a long lost friend of mine

a traveler like I

and though we’ve never met before

we meet the other eye

while on our passing journeys

where we just happened by.

.

But on a closer examination

that happened to reveal

He seemed to have some scars

that doubted would ever heal

and several of the newer cuts

had started to slowly peel.

.

A chunk out of his left fin

A scratch upon his right.

A piece removed from his tail

apparently from a fight

and all the nicks across his body

made him quite a sight.

.

But on this encountering

I found a new respect

and for this traveling shark

there was no need to redirect

In this short amount of time

we seemed to connect.

.

So I ask you please to remember

next time you travel away

try to meet a new person

every single day

for though some may seem strange

keep them in your heart, your important cache.
